YouTube is a brand that needs no introduction. The video platform is part of our daily lives and has completely changed the entertainment industry. However, YouTube is also making history in other areas, with its most recent development being its own font: YouTube Sans. You may have already noticed the new YouTube Sans font, recently launched alongside the YouTube TV platform.
The new YouTube font is a reimagining of the Play button and even includes the button among its characters, which can be typed just like any other letter or symbol.

A Change Both Major and Minor
The font was created by Saffron, in collaboration with YouTube’s UX team. It emerged from the requirement to launch a font that combines a user-friendly aspect with the distinctive entertainment tone brought by the launch of the new YouTube TV platform.
The new YouTube font is sans-serif and simple, yet at the same time very expressive and playful. The font family includes lines of different thicknesses, allowing adaptation to any medium.
YouTube thus has a typographic system that can carry the brand message across all types of media. The font communicates YouTube’s vision at first glance and promises to reconfigure itself in the future to better reflect the image of the most important name in internet video content.

Currently, the YouTube Sans font appears only in the YouTube TV interface. The TV platform offers live streaming possibilities for the most important American channels, such as ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, and many others. It remains to be seen how this live streaming system will evolve and in which countries it will be adapted. The chances are quite high that YouTube TV will catch on very well. The reason is simple: we already spend most of our time watching video content on YouTube (music, trailers, episodes, tutorials, vlogs, etc.), so why not integrate real-time TV content in the same place?
The Supremacy of Video
Smart technologies have reached a very high level and are now the most popular option for video content lovers. We’re talking about an entire industry here: televisions, phones, tablets, laptops, etc. Whether we’re talking about series, movies, shows, music, technology, advertising, or sports, the video segment is growing rapidly and is slowly but surely gaining more and more ground against static content (text and images). A simple look at social networks shows us how much the video aspect has advanced.
The integration of YouTube’s own font only demonstrates how important every detail is at this level. The new YouTube font is a much more advanced move than just an image change. The font is part of the Americans’ marketing strategy and, alongside the emblematic logo, becomes synonymous with this popular and beloved brand.
As mentioned above, the font was created by Saffron, with contributions from both the Americans’ UX team and advertising teams from Barcelona and Hamburg.
